Magnolias series

Magnolias stop me every time they bloom. I photograph them, pause for them, and return to them throughout the season. I’m drawn to the purity of the white and cream blooms against the permanence of the leaves. My earliest memory is my grandmother’s yard in the South, where magnolias were part of daily life during bloom. These works on transparent Yupo use acrylic ink and colored pencil to build the magnolia blooms.
